
Mexia, Texas has been designated a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas, as announced by Governor Greg Abbott. According to Office of the Texas Governor website, this designation reflects Mexia’s efforts to expand tourism, promote economic growth, create jobs, and increase visibility as a travel destination within Texas and internationally. Governor Abbott noted that travel within Texas generates nearly $200 billion in annual economic impact and supports 1.3 million jobs across the state.
State Senator Charles Schwertner highlighted Mexia’s hospitality and heritage as factors expected to attract tourists. State Representative Angelia Orr recognized the contributions of local families and businesses in supporting the city’s tourism efforts. Mayor Geary Smith and Mexia Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Stacey Bush noted that the certification may help drive economic growth and support local businesses.
The Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community program offers benefits including networking opportunities, strategy support, and access to state-level resources for promoting tourism.
