Mid-Missouri is slated for a series of road maintenance and construction works that might test the patience of local drivers, as routine upgrades and essential improvements to infrastructure take shape across the state. From pothole patching to full-blown roundabout construction, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has published a comprehensive rundown of projects and their potential impacts on traffic from next Monday through Sunday. MoDOT notes that all work is dependent on favorable weather and warns that schedules could shift as a result.
For those steering through Boone County, expect pavement repairs on Routes B and NN starting Sept. 22, with a portion of the roadway remaining open as flaggers guide vehicles. Meanwhile, MoDOT warns of a brief shutdown of signals at the intersection of Missouri Routes 740 and 163 on Thursday, urging drivers to navigate the crossover as a four-way stop until the lights come back online by morning. Keep in mind, major roadway improvements will continue to encroach on pedestrian paths along Route TT until its expected wrap in September and intersect with the ongoing roundabout construction at Route K and Old Plank Road, which is pushing toward a December finish line.
Upcoming closures loom large for drivers in Callaway County as well, where Route J will sport a single lane with flaggers due to resurfacing procedures. The hustle and bustle along I-70 don't seem to slow either; lane closures will pepper the highway as part of stellar efforts within the Improve I-70 Program. A detour around the closure of the North Outer Road 70 starting next Thursday is advised, as work beneath the pavement promises to stretch into early 2026.
In Camden County, keep an eye peeled for crews on Missouri Route 5 as they stripe the pavement from Lebanon to Camdenton, trimming down traffic to a solitary lane. Similarly, in Cole County, Route E will bear witness to its surface being refreshed, bottlenecking the flow to one lane with pilot cars stepping in to direct movement, and in Pulaski County, Route 28 will be inaccessible across I-44 in St. Robert, pushing motorists toward a carefully marked detour.
When it comes to bridges, Crawford County has its Boone Creek bridge out of commission until December, and further south in Osage County, Missouri Route 89 could see potential delays attributed to pavement repairs. MoDOT requests cooperation with the public: "MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones."
