Milwaukee County is actively investing in its local small businesses with the latest round of "Building Bridges" grants. County Executive David Crowley has unlocked $10,000 grants for a second cohort of small businesses across Milwaukee County. This initiative, as reported by Milwaukee County’s official website, aims to bolster commercial corridors and expand access to resources and technical assistance for businesses looking to either establish themselves or expand.

The Building Bridges Program, backed by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), not only provides grants but also pairs businesses with a small business liaison to strengthen the bonds between local governments and the community. According to Milwaukee County Executive Crowley, "My administration is working to build bridges between entrepreneurs, local governments, and community organizations to fuel real economic development in Milwaukee County." Crowley's statement was backed up with the assertion that direct investment into these businesses can kickstart opportunity and growth "one small business at a time."

Among the recipients is Allah Mode, LLC, which is bringing a holistic wellness approach to Milwaukee communities impacted by violence. Also, Tootsie's Tea, a Native, Hispanic, woman-owned tea blending business, adds a rustic charm and new life to an industrial neighborhood. IV Generations Holdings LLC is yet another grantee, which is set to convert a historic warehouse into a classy event venue and creative space. Moreover, with its focus on freshly made dishes and community involvement, Mimosa is doubling its seating capacity and branching out its business with the aid of the grant funding.

Additionally, projects like HoneyBee Sage Wellness & Apothecary Cafe are notable for combining an alcohol-free cocktail lounge with a tea cafe and an apothecary, fostering an inclusive environment for wellness. "By supporting local entrepreneurs, we’re investing in stronger families, neighborhoods, and futures," Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson articulated, highlighting the broader implications of the Building Bridges Program on the community.

Crucial renovations and expansions for several other local small businesses, including mental health services, beauty salons, Burmese cuisine, and Southern cooking, are also set to benefit from these funds. This comprehensive effort reflects the administration's directive to stimulate economic vitality across various sectors within Milwaukee County. For example, Kennedy's Circle of Wellness is turning a commercial property into a community-centric wellness center, underscoring the program's role in meeting diverse local needs.
