In light of the recent tragedy at the Church of the Annunciation, the City of Minneapolis has teamed up with state organizations and local community groups to launch a Neighborhood Community Support and Resource Center. This initiative aims to provide resources and support to those affected by the events, as the entire neighborhood reels from the impact of the shooting.

Located at Lynnhurst Park, 1345 West Minnehaha Parkway, the center began operations on August 31, offering an inclusive space for individuals in Minneapolis to find mental health services, spiritual care, and various other forms of aid. According to the bulletin announcing the initiative, volunteers from several local organizations are staffing the resource center, including the Minneapolis Park Board. The Red Cross and the Minnesota Office of Justice Programs are among the partners providing essential services.

"In the wake of this horrific tragedy, our City is grieving alongside the families, neighbors and students whose lives have been forever changed. No one should have to navigate this kind of pain alone," Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was quoted in a statement. He emphasized the city’s efforts to rally round its citizens and provide a supportive space for neighbors to find care and comfort at Lynnhurst Park. The center is scheduled to be open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the following Tuesday, with plans to extend operations based on community need.

The City’s website lists additional mental health resources and provides advice on addressing the traumatic event with children. It also includes contact information for the Minnesota Crime Victims Reimbursement Program, which offers financial assistance to victims, witnesses, and their families. Therapy animals, water and snacks, and activities for children are also on offer for those seeking aid at the center. Aside from the Minneapolis initiative, the Annunciation Hope and Healing Fund has been established to aid the victims, and donations can be sent via text. As outlined by the bulletins, community members can text "ACF1" to 41444 to contribute to the cause.

For immediate assistance, community members in distress can reach out to the Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990, which offers 24/7 crisis counseling. Other support options include the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline available by calling or texting 988, Cope Mobile Crisis for Hennepin County at 612-596-1223, and 211 – United Way, which provides localized assistance when texted a zip code to 898 211*. The city urges anyone in need of aid to look into these resources and more as Minneapolis seeks to heal from the trauma of the mass shooting.
