In a recent social media post, the New Castle County Police have reported the successful recovery of a 73-year-old man who had been missing from his home in the Hillstream development of Newark. Police were alerted to the situation on the evening of Wednesday, September 24, and swiftly took to the scene to initiate a search.
Despite the harsh conditions rendered by the severe weather, which precluded aviation support, patrol officers responded promptly and launched a thorough search of the area. According to the New Castle County Police's Facebook post, the elderly man had been out of sight for over an hour before officers were called to assist.
The discovery came when an officer found the man on Doe Run Road, struggling to get out of a roadside ditch. The officers on scene did not hesitate to provide aid, and the man was soon transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. His condition was evaluated after suffering exposure to rain and the unfavorable elements.
Expressing their gratitude for the officers' expedient and decisive actions, the social media post highlighted, "We’re grateful for the quick response of the officers working the road last night who brought this search to a safe outcome." Following the incident, the police presented several suggestions aimed at preventing similar situations, such as securing doors and windows, using smart devices for alerts, employing wearable ID or GPS technology, informing neighbors, and keeping updated photos and medical information readily available for first responders.
