Amidst the scorching heat of summer which often renders sidewalks too hot for our four-legged friends, mobile doggy gyms have rolled into town, offering a cooler kind of workout experience courtesy of air-conditioned vans stocked with canine-friendly treadmills. ABC15 reports on a Phoenix-based service called DoggDash, where pups like Jan, a pitbull terrier rescue, trot to their heart's content without stepping a paw on the blazing pavement.

"She can be reactive at times, and at times not want to get in the van, but once she gets in there on that treadmill, she will happily do this for 45 minutes, or she has gone as long as an hour," said Laura Barglia, Jan's owner, in a statement reported by ABC15. Meanwhile, the creator of DoggDash, Kyle Meluch, traded his corporate gig for a career steeped in canine cardio, bringing muscle tone and joy to pooches far and wide without them having to brave the daunting heat.

In a similar fashion, Las Vegas pets have gained their own ally against the summer heat with Run Dawg Mobile Dog Gym, as reported by Yahoo Lifestyle. Founders Ray Santopietro and Jen Stricos leveraged their concern for the wellbeing of dogs, whose paws might otherwise suffer on surfaces that can reach 150 degrees, to establish a venture that lets dogs exercise without burning their feet or overheating their systems.

Run Dawg caters to a wide range of dogs, "from two pounds up to 150 pounds," Santopietro told Yahoo Lifestyle, understanding that not all dogs and their owners can manage daily outdoor strolls whether due to special needs, time constraints, or the dangerous heat. With each treadmill session supervised, and equipment sanitized after use dogs find a safe, friendly space to maintain fitness, especially those with unique challenges such as seniors, dogs with mobility issues, or even blind or three-legged dogs who can’t safely run outside.
