A tragic incident unfolded on a Watauga County road last Saturday when a motorcyclist died days after being involved in a crash, as reported by QCNews.
Michael Lyn Holman, 51, was riding a 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Pottertown Road, near the intersection with Meat Camp Road when the accident occurred around 4 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed. Reports from WBTV indicated that Holman attempted to overtake another vehicle in a no-passing zone but lost control and overturned his bike.
The situation escalated when an oncoming 2017 Jeep Compass, driven by 19-year-old Karen Chyanne Norris, struck the motorcyclist who had already a loss of control and the road was consequently closed for around two hours for investigation purposes WSOCTV reports suggest. Following the calamitous event, Holman was rushed to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
The driver of the Jeep Compass did not sustain injuries in the crash, and after an assessment by the authorities, impairment appears not to be a factor in the collision, leading to the decision that no charges will be filed, as all three sources agree. The incident has highlighted once again the inherent risks of the road, especially when traffic rules designed for safety are unheeded.
