Don't miss the final show of the Sails Original Music Series this Friday! New Translations, a rising band from Nashville, will take the stage at 7 p.m. on September 26 at Union Square in downtown Hickory. This free concert, sponsored by Protection Products, Inc., wraps up the series with a fun and unique mix of indie rock, synth-pop, and alt-pop. Come enjoy a night of great original music, as reported by the City of Hickory.
Fresh off their acclaimed appearance at Bonnaroo and a stint opening for Rainbow Kitten Surprise earlier this year, New Translations has been heralded for their live performance ability. Their debut album, "Vacation," sails through a sea of '80s influences while anchoring in modern sensibilities. According to an interview with the City of Hickory's website, lead singer Oliver Pierce is clear about the band's intentions: “I want us to find the outsiders and create a community that celebrates the strange.”
New Translations wasn't always known by that name. "When this band was first at the Sails Original Music Series, they were called Jive Talk. They got signed to Warner Brothers, and they changed their name. But they still have that quirky pop intensity that made us love them before. A young, exciting band comes back for more!” Bob Sinclair, the series' coordinator conveyed the group's evolution. The Sails Original Music Series has a history of bringing such talent to light, an effort spanning back to 2012 and bolstered by a variety of sponsors, as stated by the City of Hickory.
The upcoming show promises an environment accommodating comfort and convenience, where guests are encouraged to bring their own seating. Nestled among bars, and restaurants, concertgoers can enjoy local food and drinks. Additionally, downtown's social district allows for the consumption of alcoholic beverages sold by ABC permitted businesses in designated cups on public squares, but remember, visitors cannot bring their own alcohol to the event, as per the City of Hickory.
