The City of New Orleans has won a legal case against Airbnb over short-term rental regulations. U.S. District Court Judge Jay C. Zainey has largely dismissed a lawsuit filed by Airbnb challenging the city’s rules on short-term rentals. According to an official statement from the City of New Orleans, the ruling upholds the city’s permit verification system for platforms like Airbnb.
In his decision, Judge Zainey stated there is no fundamental right to rent out residential property on a short-term basis. This supports the city’s authority to regulate commercial activities in residential areas.
The lawsuit and ruling reflect ongoing legal disputes between local governments and online platforms over short-term rental practices. The City of New Orleans emphasized the efforts of its legal team in defending the regulations, which aim to manage neighborhood commercial activity.
