Commuters on the new State Route 509 Expressway in SeaTac now face tolls, which began early Monday morning. Two-axle vehicles with a Good To Go pass pay $1.20 to $2.40 during peak hours, while vehicles without a pass receive a $2 surcharge, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The toll applies to the stretch between Interstate 5 and 24th Avenue South, with no carpool exemptions. The first mile opened in June, and two more miles are expected by 2028, while all previous free routes remain available, as reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Tolls on the SR 509 Expressway will help maintain the road and fund future construction under the Puget Sound Gateway Program, covering part of the $2.83 billion project budget. Drivers can save by using a Good To Go account, which includes a free sticker pass "while supplies last," with account options available at MyGoodToGo.com, as stated by the Washington State Department of Transportation.
