Early Saturday morning, a startling disturbance occurred at The Original Pantry Cafe in downtown Los Angeles when a sedan crashed into its brick wall, as LAist reported; the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the incident took place around 3 a.m. on Figueroa Street. Fortunately, according to a statement obtained by LAist, LAPD Public Information Officer Charles Miller indicated that no serious injuries had been reported following the crash, and no arrests have been made or charges filed. Insurance information was exchanged between the Pantry's representative and the sedan's driver.
The crash added to the struggles of The Original Pantry, which had shuttered in March after a century of service, most of it operating non-stop, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, this closure wasn't the end of its story for real estate developer Leo Pustilnikov purchased the restaurant from the Richard J. Riordan Family Trust and has vocalized his intention to usher in the eatery's rebirth on New Year's Eve, as NBC Los Angeles illuminated.
The scene at The Original Pantry was quickly contained. Video captured in the aftermath, provided by CBS News Los Angeles, showed a second vehicle that appeared to be involved in the accident that ultimately propelled the sedan into the restaurant's facade underneath a window. Additionally, a rectangular portion of brick was pushed into the interior, signifying the force of the impact.
