Looking to boost mental wellness and advocate for suicide prevention, Ohio's Governor Mike DeWine's RecoveryOhio Initiative is teaming up with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) for an event at Findley State Park. On September 20, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., the Walk into Wellness event is taking the stage, inviting the public to enjoy free activities ranging from nature hikes with an ODNR officer to therapy dog snuggles, as part of National Suicide Prevention Month.
The activities planned are all about promoting health and wellness. Participants will have the opportunity to paint kindness rocks, wander along a Storybook Trail, check out the Nature Center, and even get a taste of disc golf. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) website, the fun kicks off with a guided nature hike at 10:30 a.m., promising nature immersion for about two hours. And for those who love collectibles, complete an activity card and you'll snag a nod of approval with a special certificate signed by DeWine and Lt. Governor Jim Tressel if you return it by October 4.
Wait, there's more. The event also leans into the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge, encouraging young Ohioans to embrace healthier lifestyles. Lt. Governor Jim Tressel's initiative urges students to focus on improved physical activity, sleep, and nutrition, with personalized goals.
It's all taking place at Findley State Park, an oasis that spans 838 acres. The park, as described by officials, boasts an array of tall pines, hardwoods, and tranquil waters—tailor-made for an escape into the great outdoors. By merging mental health awareness with nature's serenity, ODNR and the Governor's office are sending a clear message: taking care of your mind is as vital as taking a breath of fresh air.
