In a gesture that acknowledges their dedication and hard work, the Oklahoma City Police Department has celebrated two of its own. Sgt. Justin Van Brunt and Sgt. Sheena Alexander have been honored as the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Featured Officers for the month of September. An announcement made on the Oklahoma City Police Department's official Facebook page commended the officers for their commitment to the community and the Special Olympics Oklahoma.
Both officers have been recognized for their willingness to consistently dedicate time and effort to the LETR's mission. This includes organizing events, spearheading fundraisers, and maintaining a positive presence at various functions. "Whether it’s organizing events, leading fundraisers, or simply showing up with a smile, their passion and servant hearts shine through in everything they do," the Oklahoma City Police Department's post highlighted.
The LETR is an international charity made up of law enforcement officers who raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics. It's a partnership that values inclusion and community engagement, aspects clearly embodied by both Sgt. Van Brunt and Sgt. Sheena Alexander in their work with Special Olympics Oklahoma.
Commendations from the department represent more than just a pat on the back; they are a testament to the positive impact these officers have in the community. "We’re proud to see two of our own recognized for their impact on the community and the athletes they support," the Oklahoma City Police Department proudly stated.
