The Oregon Senate passed legislation on Monday to keep 500 ODOT maintenance workers employed. House Bill 3991 and House Bill 3992 will help these workers continue maintaining the state’s roads and bridges, according to the Oregon Legislature.
Oregon transportation workers handle many tasks to keep roads safe, including snowplowing highways, maintaining bridges, filling potholes, painting pavement markings, and clearing after accidents and wildfires. Their work helps people travel safely and efficiently across the state, as reported by the Oregon Legislature.
Oregon has passed a law to protect 500 road crew jobs as gas tax revenue drops due to more fuel-efficient vehicles. Wagner said, "Oregon's transportation systems are the connective tissue for every aspect of our daily lives. Without the work of devoted state, county, and city road crews, Oregonians wouldn't be able to access health care, take kids to school, travel to jobs, or enjoy everything the four corners of Oregon has to offer." The law aims to keep transportation services running and support daily life in Oregon, as stated by the Oregon Legislature.
