In the early hours of a late August morning, a tragic incident unfolded along Highway 126 in Lane County. Oregon State Police are now seeking the public's help following a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a young pedestrian. According to a release published by Oregon State Police, the collision took place at approximately 5:59 a.m. on Sunday, at the intersection of Highway 126 and Huston Road.
The victim, identified as 22-year-old Dakota Blue Gilbert of Veneta, was struck by an eastbound sport utility vehicle as they entered the roadway. Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver responsible for this incident did not stop to provide assistance or contact authorities and has since remained unidentified.
Authorities are on the lookout for a light colored 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox believed to be involved in the crash.
