A woman who took a wrong turn and ended up in a residential driveway became the unintended target of a violent attack this week in Palm Bay. According to police reports, the misunderstanding led to an arrest on charges including attempted murder.
In what has unfolded as a bizarre and harrowing encounter on Clover Street NE, the victim, who had been following someone else to a home for the first time, inadvertently found herself facing Roman Rawicki, 50, who then allegedly took to physically restraining and eventually firing a weapon at her, ClickOrlando detailed Rawicki was in the driveway with his family when he grabbed the victim’s arm and wrist, leaving bruises after "restraining her by holding her arm behind her back in an arm lock," as the startled woman called out to her acquaintance, she was then thrown to the ground which soon escalated to Rawicki retrieving a firearm and shooting as the victim and her friend departed the unsettling scene.
The disarray caught law enforcement's attention after 17 shell casings were counted at the location, indicative of the severity and intent behind the act. WFTV's report notes the tension-filled narrative that played out within view of Rawicki’s wife and children.
Despite Rawicki's assertion that he observed a "no soliciting" sign and recognized the woman's mistake, he claims an assault was enacted "out of fear for his wife’s safety," a factor that prompted the forceful response yet this did not elaborate on why he believed the mistaken visitor posed such a threat; Rawicki has since been released on a bond nearing $160,000 as the community grapples with the shocking display of violence over a simple misstep.
