A Phoenix man has been handed an 18-year sentence following a violent robbery and shooting incident at a local streetwear store. Junn Alan Quinto Coleman, 35, received his sentence from United States District Judge Sharad H. Desai on September 22, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Coleman had previously entered a guilty plea for Hobbs Act Robbery, which covers attempted or completed robberies affecting interstate commerce, and for discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
According to the case details, on January 2, 2024, Coleman, along with another individual, targeted the Phoenix Soles store located on Central Avenue. Witnesses recall Coleman pointing a gun at store occupants, before brutally pistol-whipping and then shooting a man in the shoulder. The heist resulted in the theft of cash, merchandise, and jewelry. Law enforcement was able to quickly identify Coleman due to his distinct facial tattoos. In a statement obtained by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, United States Attorney Timothy Courchaine applauded the swift response of local and federal agencies. "This case is a prime example of multiple agencies working together to curtail violent crime in our community," Courchaine said.
The case was a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative that aims to bring down violent crime rates by fostering cooperation between law enforcement at all levels and the communities they serve. Effectively launched in 2017, PSN has sought to create locally-tailored strategies for combating violent criminal activity, signifying the Department of Justice's determination to focus resources on high-priority targets.
The collaborative investigation that led to Coleman’s capture and sentencing was the work of the Phoenix Police Department, the FBI’s Phoenix Division, and the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR). Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Chapman, located in the District of Arizona, Phoenix, was responsible for prosecuting the case. The court docket number for the case has been listed as CR-24-00484-PHX-SHD, with the relevant press release number being 2025-152_Coleman.
