Pittsburgh residents can look forward to a week of warmth and sunshine as the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh PA reports that high-pressure conditions are likely to dominate much of the upcoming days, according to their latest forecast. The dry spell is predicted to hold steady with high temperatures expected to soar to around 10 degrees above the seasonal average.
The clear skies are the result of a weak upper-level trough that's just finished crossing the Upper Ohio Valley, dispersing early morning clouds and leaving behind the possibility of some river valley steam fog. Mostly sunny skies are expected today, with just a few diurnal cumulus clouds possible as convective temperatures are reached, as the National Weather Service stated. With a high-pressure system camped to the north and a ridge moving eastward from the central CONUS, the stage is set for an uninterrupted stretch of comfortable weather, although high temperatures may take a slight dip on Tuesday. The atmospheric dynamics make for a consistent theme: dry and warm, above-average temperatures through Tuesday night.
The serene weather comes with a side of caution for late Tuesday, when a coastal low is expected to venture northward from the Carolinas, bringing a slight chance of showers to the ridges of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The forecast from the National Weather Service indicates that any rain will likely be fended off by the persistent dry easterly air flow.
Heading into the weekend, a trough making its slow eastward journey from the Midwest may pose some uncertainty about rainfall; however, as of now, minimal rain chances are in the forecast as this trough approaches, through uncertainty exists in the strength of the trough and the amount of moisture available, according to the weather service. Meanwhile, aviation conditions look favorable, with the forecast predicting VFR and light northeastern winds persisting through Thursday, interrupted only by the chance of some river valley fog in the early hours of Monday morning, potentially affecting regional airports like FKL just before sunrise.
