A suspect in Portland is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly trying to seize an officer's gun during a confrontation last weekend. Bo W. Davis, 43, was booked into Multnomah County Detention Center on multiple charges, including robbery, assaulting a public safety officer, menacing, and dealing with an outstanding warrant, as per a Portland Police Bureau release.

The incident, which triggered a deadly force investigation, transpired yesterday, when Portland Police officers, following up on a "Threat with Weapon" call, encountered Davis, who was reportedly striking vehicles with a metal pole. After an initial search that turned up empty without any victims coming forward, updated information led officers to Oregon Park, where they located the suspect. A violent altercation ensued as Davis allegedly attempted to remove an officer's firearm from its holster. The police responded to the situation, and two officers were injured: one suffered a hand injury and another incurred a head injury during the scuffle.

During the intense struggle, lasting close to seven minutes, an officer applied a neck hold to subdue Davis. Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect did not lose consciousness, nor did he seem to sustain any critical injuries. Both Davis and the two injured officers were taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. According to the police statement, the officers have since been released and are recovering at home.

The use of a neck hold is categorized under Portland Police Bureau policy as deadly force, necessary in this case to halt the skirmish. As a result, the officer who engaged the hold has been placed on paid administrative leave. At the same time, an internal review is conducted, and the case awaits deliberation by the Police Review Board. Neither officer discharged a weapon during the incident. The Portland Police Bureau has contacted witnesses to contribute any further information regarding the case. The active investigation remains ongoing, urging anyone with useful details to contact detectives.
