A routine patrol in Half Moon Bay by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies on Sunday night ended with the arrest of a prohibited felon found in possession of a ghost gun, ammunition, and illegal drugs. According to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred at approximately 11:45 PM in the 100 block of San Mateo Road.
Upon conducting a traffic stop for an expired vehicle registration, deputies discovered that the passenger, identified as 33-year-old Scott T. Campbell Jr. of Chino, was on probation with search terms applicable. A search of Campbell yielded an unserialized firearm, known colloquially as a ghost gun, along with an extended magazine, live rounds, suspected methamphetamine, syringes, and a glass pipe. Additionally, various gun parts and accessories were found, which Campbell, being a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing. The female driver, cited for driving with a suspended license, was released at the scene.
Campbell now faces six felony and two misdemeanor charges, as outlined in an official statement from law enforcement. The charges include felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a firearm without a serial number, possession of narcotics with a firearm, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. He was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility following his arrest.
