This information comes from a press release issued by the department, although a thorough investigation is still underway to ascertain the definitive cause of the tragedy. The crash, which took place on September 5, 2025, at about 1:40 a.m., resulted in Kūhiō Highway being closed for roughly two hours during the investigative process with detours temporarily routing traffic through the nearby Keālia Beach parking lot.
