The Mankato Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 420 West Pleasant Street at approximately 5:54 p.m. where firefighters were met with moderate smoke issuing from the dwelling. Efforts to subdue the blaze were successful, leading to the confinement of the fire to its original room.
One individual was inside the home when the flames took hold, and was subsequently aided to safety by a passerby who noticed the emergency. The quick response prevented what could have been a tragedy. The occupant received an evaluation on the scene by the Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service and reportedly did not need hospitalization. According to the social media statement, the estimated damage to the property is around $35,000.
While the origin of the fire remains undetermined, officials have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause. The City of Mankato's post emphasized the successful containment of the fire: "Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and contained it to the room where it appears to have started," showcasing the efficiency and immediate response of the emergency services in handling the event.
