
Earlier yesterday, a Raleigh police vehicle was struck head-on by a driver charged with driving while impaired. The incident, which occurred on Carolina Pines Avenue near Granite Street in Raleigh, fortunately resulted in no injuries. CBS 17 reports that the individual responsible, Nallely Arvizu-Mejia, 23, of Angier, has been charged with a DWI and will face a Wake County judge later this month.
In a statement obtained by WRAL, the Raleigh Police Department confirmed that there was only one officer inside the police car during the time of the collision. The department has yet to publicly release details regarding the specifics of the crash. Arvizu-Mejia is now to fully cooperate with the pending investigation.
According to ABC11, the crash happened just before midnight Saturday. While it was a relief that no one was injured, the arresting officers have charged the driver with a DWI, and the case remains actively under investigation.
The Raleigh Police Department is conducting the ongoing investigation and will release more information as it becomes available.
