Raleigh’s Active Adult Program is organizing a trip to the Whirligig Festival in Wilson County. The event celebrates the work of Vollis Simpson, who created wind-powered sculptures from scrap materials. What began on his farm has grown into one of the county’s main attractions, drawing visitors from across the country, according to the City of Raleigh's announcement.
The City of Raleigh’s Active Adult Centers are organizing a cultural trip on Nov. 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The excursion will feature live music, food vendors, and art displays, including whirligigs created by Simpson.
The trip will begin at the Anne Gordon Active Adult Center and other participating centers. The cost is $15 per person, open to both Raleigh residents and visitors.
