In a recent council meeting, the State Auditor's Office honored the department with its prestigious State Auditor’s Stewardship Award (SASA) for its unwavering commitment to excellence in financial reporting.
A select group of government entities receives this accolade, with the Renton Finance Department being one of only five out of 2,400 agencies audited annually in Washington that garnered the award this year. The State Auditor's recognition is not one given lightly, symbolizing a dedication to not only financial meticulousness but also to the principles of open government – a triumph in stewardship rightly celebrated.
The presentation of the award was not an affair of mere formality but a gathering that reflected the collective efforts of the department's 27 members who have together built a stronghold of public trust. According to Renton's official news release, high-ranking officials from the State Auditor's Office, including State Auditor Pat McCarthy, Deputy State Auditor Kelly Collins, Assistant Director of Local Audit Wendy Choy, and Audit Manager Paul Griswold, joined the council meeting to personally commend the department's work.
