Amid growing environmental concerns in Renton, the city government is hosting a major recycling event scheduled for September 13. Residents are invited to drop off specific recyclable items free of charge. This will be the third and final event of the year, as announced by the City of Renton in a social media post. The event will accept Styrofoam, plastic bags, and shreddable documents, and also provides participants with the opportunity to support the community by donating food to the local food bank.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Renton Technical College Parking Lot 3 and is hosted by the Public Works Department. It aims to collect clean white block Styrofoam, bagged packing peanuts, bubble wrap, and clean plastic bags, including grocery bags and plastic Amazon envelopes. To help residents declutter, the event will also accept up to four boxes of paper materials such as mail, photographs, and file folders. However, attendees should be aware that certain items will not be accepted, including cardboard, hard plastics like ID badges and driver’s licenses, hardcover books, binders, and discs.

The initiative reflects Renton’s efforts to promote an environmentally conscious culture among its residents. The city states that participating in events like this encourages responsibility and involvement in managing waste and environmental impact. Additionally, residents have the option to donate food to those in need.

Those with official documents to be shredded should note that they are allowed to bring up to four boxes of materials, each measuring 12” x 15” x 10”.
