Rockwall County residents can expect a slightly lower property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year as the Commissioners Court has voted unanimously to slash the rate to $0.2510 per $100 of property valuation, a marginal drop from last year's $0.2547 rate. This decision comes before the new fiscal year kicks off on October 1, as announced by the County of Rockwall.
Not just tightening the belt on tax rates, the court also settled on a total budget of $59,018,950.00 for Fiscal Year 2026, marking a 6% incline over the previous fiscal year's budget of $55,479,016.00, in what was a 4 to 1 vote. Commendably, despite the budget increases, Judge Frank New, who voted against the budget, voted in favor of the reduced tax rate. The increase in the budget includes funds for various critical projects, like road maintenance, Sheriff's Office renovations, and the addition of a Fire Marshal to ensure construction regulations are followed.
From $55 million to almost $60 million, the new budget aligns with the county's growth, responding to its evolving needs through finesse and adjustment rather than broad strokes. The plan is to rope in 21 new full-time positions, of which 13 will be backing the newly minted 503rd District Court—an addition set to up the budget by approximately $1.7 million. The county employees and elected officials will see pay raises of 4% and 3%, respectively.
Amid this budgeting act, the median taxable value of a homestead in Rockwall County also crept up, settling at $424,397.00 for 2025 as compared to $402,149.00 the year prior. For residents looking to voice their thoughts or seek clarification on county matters, the Commissioners Court convenes on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month. Sessions allow for public commentary for those who've signed up ahead of time.
