San José Police Department officers arrested a man on suspicion of an attempted sexual assault that took place in South San José last week. According to the SJPD press release, the incident occurred last Saturday, at around 2:28 PM, when the suspect allegedly followed the victim to her residence and attempted to assault her. The victim's screams and resistance caused the assailant to flee the scene in his vehicle eventually.
Utilizing automated license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras, the police quickly tracked down the suspect's vehicle. The SJPD's Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) was instrumental in swiftly combining technology with investigative prowess to provide identifying details that led officers to a man matching the suspect’s description. He was detained and positively identified by the victim as the alleged perpetrator.
In a statement released by the San José Police Department, the arrest was the result of "outstanding collaborative work" by the department's patrol officers, RTIC, and the Sexual Assault Investigations Unit. The suspect was subsequently taken to the Santa Clara County Main Jail and faces multiple charges in relation to the sexual assault.
The San José Police also provided the survivor with necessary resources and support. They are now appealing to the public for any additional information regarding the case.
