In a striking turn of events, the San José Police Department (SJPD) has announced an investigation into an alleged embezzlement case at the Keith Kelley Club, a non-profit associated with the department dedicated to supporting injured officers and their families. According to a public notification issued by the San José Police Department, discrepancies in the nonprofit's finances prompted a volunteer to sound the alarm, leading to a probe by the department's Financial Crimes Unit.
The investigation, which quickly began after the initial March report, has uncovered that an adult female suspect, later identified as Margie Thompson, purportedly managed to covertly siphon off approximately $43,000 over a five-year span. This money, intended to aid police officers and their families during times of distress, allegedly ended up lining the pockets of Thompson, the sole paid employee of the Keith Kelley Club. The department's detectives have now obtained a warrant for her arrest.
The financial wrongdoings allegedly span from January 2020 to January 2025, during which Thompson was entrusted with the organization’s funds. The police are now digging deeper into the the Keith Kelley Club's financial past, trying to fully unravel the extent of the embezzlement. As per the information from the SJPD, the investigative efforts are "active and ongoing," with the hopes of uncovering any additional discrepancies and ensuring justice can be served.
