The San José Police Department's Gang Investigations Unit has recently made arrests in connection with a series of gang-related vandalism incidents across the city. According to a news release on the San José Police Department's official website, two juvenile males, previously on juvenile probation, were implicated in the destruction that has accrued more than $10,000 in damages to public properties like Los Paseos Park and Ramac Park.
Following several reports to the City of San José's 3-1-1 online service, spanning from March through July of this year, detectives identified a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old male suspect. Known active gang members, the suspects were already familiar to local law enforcement for prior offenses related to firearms and vandalism. Arrest warrants were issued for the pair, leading to the eventual apprehension on September 12, carried out by officers from the SJPD Violent Crime Enforcement Team.
Upon arrest, it surfaced that one suspect was found with a concealed firearm, which, along with the vandalism, resulted in a slew of charges, including probation violation and numerous firearm-related offenses. Both juveniles were booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, both individuals are reported not to be currently in custody, according to the SJPD release.
