Yesterday in San Mateo, a confrontation escalated into violence, leading to the arrest of a local man for assault with a deadly weapon and several firearms-related charges. The San Mateo Police Department quickly responded to a call from the 1600 block of Roberta Drive, where an adult reported being hit in the mouth with a firearm during a verbal altercation. After being struck, the victim was also allegedly attacked while on the ground by the suspect, 39-year-old Jose Alvaradovasquez.

According to a social media post from the San Mateo Police Department, officers observed Alvaradovasquez entering a vehicle. They initiated a traffic stop as he attempted to drive away from the scene.

During the traffic stop, officers found Alvaradovasquez under the influence, possessing two rounds of 9mm ammunition, and suspected methamphetamine. Hidden in bushes near where Alvaradovasquez was first sighted, searching officers unearthed an unserialized firearm, a magazine, and additional ammunition about 10 feet away. Alvaradovasquez was charged with multiple offenses, including DUI and possession of a controlled substance, and booked into San Mateo County Jail following these discoveries. Found in possession of an unserialized firearm, Alvaradovasquez faces serious felony charges.

San Mateo authorities have charged Alvaradovasquez with an array of crimes, including assault with a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, and owning a firearm without a serial number. Additional charges for possessing a controlled substance while armed and driving on a suspended license were added to the list.
