Last Tuesday, gunfire on Cecilia Drive in Santa Rosa led to a discovery that has now resulted in two arrests. Officers responding to the scene found a shattered sliding glass door and a deceased dog, with another severely injured, according to a Santa Rosa Police social media post. Their search inside the house revealed an even more distressing scene, the resident, Mollie Schefer, was found dead with gunshot wounds.
The Santa Rosa Police Department's Violent Crimes Investigations Team quickly took over, initiating an investigation into this targeted killing, which, Hoodline reports, did not appear to pose a broader threat to the community. No suspects were initially located at the scene, and the firearm involved in the incident remains unaccounted for.
A week-long probe led detectives to a 2003 gold Lexus RX connected to Felix Carreon, 50, and Robert McConlogue, 46, who were both subsequently arrested and charged with murder and felony criminal conspiracy. A third charge was also booked against McConlogue for a felony violation of probation unrelated to this case.
Monday saw a coordinated effort by detectives and officers as they tailed and detained the suspects; Carreon dropped McConlogue in the area of Stony Point Road before he was detained, parking his vehicle and walking near the intersection of Yolanda Avenue and Santa Rosa Avenue. Santa Rosa Police confirmed they later executed search warrants at residences associated with both men, seizing clothing, electronic devices, and ammunition, though the actual firearm used in the homicide continues to elude police.
