The city of Scottsdale was rocked by a tragic incident when the body of 38-year-old Ander Pallares Polanco was discovered submerged in the aftermath of a flash flood. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, on the evening of Sept. 26, the Scottsdale Fire Department responded to a call about a vehicle trapped in floodwaters near Vista Del Camino Park. Despite overnight search efforts, Polanco, who had been reported missing by his family at around 6:15 p.m. that evening, was not immediately located.
The subsequent morning revealed a grimmer scene. With the floodwater receding to 4 to 5 feet, first responders discovered Polanco's body, pinned beneath a walkway bridge outside his vehicle. As reported by Arizona’s Family, Polanco was delivering food when he went missing, and attempts to contact him following the incident were unsuccessful. The initial discovery of his partially submerged car offered a sliver of hope that proved to be unfounded by Saturday morning's recovery operation.
Officers were unable to reach the car on Friday due to powerful floodwaters, employing drones and helicopters to assess the situation, only to find no signs of life within the vehicle. Police acknowledged they had difficulty attempting to get a hold of Polanco, the car’s registered owner. Scottsdale Police Department confirmed that a water rescue boat helped retrieve and transport Polanco's body to shore. The investigation into the cause of death is currently pending results from the Medical Examiner's Office.
