Scottsdale's beloved McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is showing off its $13.1 million facelift as it chugs into its 50th year. This summer, the park debuted a set of fresh attractions, including The Roundhouse, a 10,000-square-foot play space with a train twist, and a splashpad covering 5,000 square feet.
Since their inauguration on Aug. 1, these new installations have been a boon for attendance, with a soaring increase of 160% from the previous summer, totaling over 39,000 visitors. The upgrades, funded by Scottsdale voter-approved bond financing and efforts by the Scottsdale Railroad Mechanical Society, also introduced a new entry plaza aimed at enhancing the welcoming atmosphere with its shaded seating, lush landscaping, public art, and convenient pathways.
As reported by Scottsdaleaz.gov, Stephanie Tippett, parks and recreation manager, expressed the community's excitement: "To be able to unveil these major improvements the same year the park turns 50, is so incredible for our staff and community."
McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park will hit the big 5-0 on Oct. 4 and is inviting the community to join the Golden Jubilee celebration during Railfair weekend. The park is boasting its continued tradition of family-friendly events, such as the Halloween Spook-Track-ula in October and the revered Holiday Lights show for the festive season.
Visitors can also look forward to the Noon Year's Eve party on Dec. 31, a perfect daylight event for families eager to ring in the new year without staying up late. For more information on upcoming events and to get a look at the new park features, guests can visit TheRailroadPark.com.
