Scottsdale is on track to revamp its Brown Avenue Parking Structure and wants the public to weigh in. According to a detailed announcement on ScottsdaleAZ.gov, there will be a public meeting hosted at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 18, to present and discuss the design options for the parking structure's expansion. Interested citizens are invited to attend the gathering at the Civic Center Library Auditorium, located at 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd.
The project, which has been in the pipeline since voters greenlit additional parking facilities in Old Town during the 2019 Bond election, involves adding two new levels to the existing parking structure at 1st Street and Brown Avenue. Reported by ScottsdaleAZ.gov, design work is expected to continue through the end of 2025, with the actual construction slated to break ground in the summer of 2026. The upcoming public meeting, following the initial community outreach session held earlier in May, where residents and stakeholders shared their insights. As a result, preliminary floor plans and exterior concepts born out of that session are now ripe for public scrutiny.
Contributions made by the community are highly valued in shaping this project. Resonating with the May session's outcome, which has already steered the preliminary design, the Sept. 18 meeting is another opportunity for residents to directly impact how the parking facility will serve the city and its denizens. Post-meeting, these design options will also be made available for public comment on the city’s project webpage.
In a coordinated effort to improve Old Town's infrastructure, the City Council had previously selected a Design Build Manager. As reported by ScottsdaleAZ.gov, Chasse Building Team was chosen on Jan. 28 to oversee the design and construction process of the garage expansion.
Those looking to stay updated on the project's progression, or to review and comment on the design concepts post-meeting can head to the city's website and search "Brown Avenue Parking."
