Three teenagers from Seminole County are now facing charges for fabricating a story about a boating incident on Lake Brantley. FOX 35 Orlando reported that the incident, which supposedly occurred last Saturday, initially prompted a significant response from local authorities. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has confirmed that the boat's operator has been charged with knowingly giving a false report, and two passengers have been accused of providing false statements to law enforcement.
Initially, the boat operator’s father reported an alleged hit-and-run. According to the initial reports, the teens claimed to have been struck by another vessel, which supposedly led to them being ejected into the water and their boat ending up beached, as detailed in FOX 35 Orlando's account. However, after a substantial search that included checking canals, conducting shoreline sweeps, and reviewing security footage, the father conceded that the story was fabricated. The truth surfaced that the teens collided with a dock, rather than being victims of a hit-and-run.
The investigation expanded with efforts from both FWC and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Security camera footage from nearby properties was reviewed, and multiple interviews were conducted. Despite the gravity of their situation, the operator persisted in providing false information until a third interview, in which the facts were finally clarified, as revealed by WFTV.
While the case has been sent to the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office for review, the full extent of the damage to the dock has not yet been disclosed.
