Seminole County has marked a notable advancement in its efforts to address the local affordable housing crisis. The recent extension of Sanford Courtyard, a project aimed at providing more economical living options for those struggling to find housing, has been officially unveiled. This extension, Phase II of the initiative, brings the promise of stability and security to a population on the brink of homelessness, with its key focus on families in need.
According to ClickOrlando, Wednesday's ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated Phase II's launch at Sanford Courtyard, situated at 1021 E. 2nd St. The project was notably bolstered by a robust $1.6 million contribution from the county's Community Services Department. Local non-profit Central Florida Home for Good, under the leadership of Kim Fogle since 2019, was the driving force behind this development.
Emphasizing the significance of the project, Kim Fogle highlighted the vulnerable demographic they aim to serve. "34% of the people who reside here are on the precipice of homelessness. That is the demographic that we serve," Fogle said, as detailed by ClickOrlando. Phase I of Sanford Courtyard began in 2020, offering 10 two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments, primarily funded by federal funds directed towards housing construction and rehabilitation.
Adding to the discourse on affordable housing, WFTV reported that the non-profit has opened an additional 10 affordable apartments near downtown Sanford. The proximity to the downtown area could offer residents easy access to local amenities and employment opportunities. Central Florida Home for Good, with a history of initiating housing projects in Sanford over the past five years, continues its mission to increase accessibility to affordable units for local families.
