According to a social media post by the agency, Sheriff Travis Allen's team, including K-9 Tess and her handler, conducted a successful operation on September 17, following a request from troopers of the NC State Highway Patrol during a traffic stop on I-85.
During the stop near exit 76, K-9 Tess "alerted to the presence of narcotics," which set a vehicle search in motion. The investigating troopers unearthed four large suitcases filled with marijuana and a sum of cash. The bust was heralded by the Sheriff’s Office, celebrating "a great job to K-9 Tess and her handler for assisting in taking these illegal drugs off the streets of Rowan County."
