Skinner Boulevard in Dunedin has reopened with two new roundabouts at Highland and Douglas avenues, marking a key milestone in the ongoing Skinner Boulevard Improvement Project, which is scheduled for full completion in spring 2026.
According to the City of Dunedin, the project, led by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), is designed to improve traffic flow from Main Street/Bass Boulevard to Broadway and enhance access for bikers and pedestrians. It includes bike lanes, bus bays, and a multipurpose path connecting to the Pinellas Trail.
FDOT reports that roundabouts can reduce traffic delays by about 20 percent and cut severe injuries and fatalities by 80 percent.
The speed limit on Skinner Boulevard is set at 25 mph to support the new traffic patterns. The City of Dunedin has posted resources on its website with tips for using the roundabouts.
