Slippery Rock University, a campus typically bustling with academia's daily churn, found itself in the throes of an alarming disruption after a bomb threat prompted a thorough search and evacuation of its facilities. According to an article by WTAE, the threat, which came through this afternoon, was suspected to be a swatting attempt. Despite the nature of the threat, the university took no chances, clearing buildings out of an abundance of caution and conducting a detailed search.
The university's official website communicated its stance on the incident, asserting that it would continue an active investigation in concert with federal agencies, determined to unearth the origin of the threat, and there would be no lapse in its commitment to community safety. WPXI noted that the entire campus, including residential halls, the recreation center, and various other buildings, was meticulously searched. Faculty, staff, and students received a letter advising them of the situation and the protocol that would follow, including the dissemination of an 'all clear' email upon completion of the safety search.
While examinations of the campus carried on, an increased police presence marked the grounds. Any students who felt unsafe due to the ongoing inquiry were advised to discuss attendance concerns with their professors, and faculty were recommended to do the same with their respective managers. The list of cleared buildings embraced areas integral to the campus structure, from the Aebersold Recreation Center and the Bailey Library to residence halls and sports facilities.
