
The Springfield Township Police Department recently took to social media to celebrate its officers and civilian staff for their exceptional service throughout 2024. The Springfield Township Police Department, in a post shared last week, the department recapped its annual Employee Appreciation Banquet, highlighting commendations for various acts of bravery, dedicated service, and community involvement.
Among the celebrated acts, Sgt. Michael Roberts and Officer Austin Branham received Letters of Commendation for safely de-escalating a potentially deadly situation involving a suicidal male armed with a firearm. Similarly, Sgt. Cody Meade and Officer Jonathan McKenzie were recognized for their efficiency in tackling a burglary at Kohl’s, where they recovered over $2,000 in stolen merchandise. The Canton Road Homicide investigation team shone, for their collaborative effort in resolving a shooting incident, and Sgt. Cody Meade, Officer Timothy Keys, Officer Jonathan McKenzie, and Sgt. Brian Troyer was praised for managing a volatile scene at a Waffle House shooting,
On the lighter side of law enforcement, Officer Austin Branham and Officer Ty Klapp received Letters of Appreciation for handling a quirky "raccoon with a meth pipe" case that saw them gain national attention. Another notable mention was Officer Ty Klapp's role in implementing a Drone Program, a step that introduced innovative technology to the Springfield Township Police Department's toolkit.
Moreover, the department did not forget the silent heroes behind the scenes. Emery Pittman and Kate Thurston were acknowledged for their contributions, Pittman for maintaining the fleet, and Thurston for her community service during various events. Proactive Policing Recognition was given to officers like Sgt. Michael Roberts and Sgt. Cody Meade, who were instrumental in traffic stops and interdictions leading to felony arrests, drug seizures, and the recovery of stolen vehicles.
Gratitude was also extended to the local community, with a special thanks addressed to Trustee Kellie Chapman for her involvement in organizing the banquet and to San Marino Italian Restaurant for donating the catering.
