The St. Charles County community is grappling with the tragic end to the search for 18-year-old Logan Hummel, who was reported missing earlier this month. The St. Charles County Police Department has confirmed that the body recovered from the Missouri River at the Chain of Rocks Bridge has been positively identified as Hummel. This discovery brings a close to the missing person investigation that commenced when Logan was first reported missing on September 3.
Initial reports had revealed a sighting of an individual on the ledge of Veterans Memorial Bridge on the same day Logan disappeared. Despite a swift response by law enforcement, the individual in question was not found at the scene. A later investigation confirmed that the vehicle found near the bridge had been driven by Logan, suggesting the missing person and the individual seen potentially poised to jump were one and the same. In a somber turn of events, the St. Charles County Police Department announced earlier this week that a body was reported in the river, subsequently identified as Hummel.
Search and rescue efforts had ensued immediately following the initial report of the individual on the bridge—yet yielded no results in the river's treacherous currents. The family of Logan Hummel had been notified when the car was found, and their worst fears were confirmed with this week's grim news. "The St. Charles County Police Department missing person investigation is now closed," stated the official news release, marking an end to an anxious period of uncertainty for all involved. The St. Charles County Police Department has not released further details on the investigation but conveyed condolences to Logan Hummel's family and friends, who are now mourning the loss of a young life.
