High school students from Destrehan and Hahnville took part in a field trip organized by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office to learn about the criminal justice system. According to St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office's Facebook post, the visit included tours of the Fleet Maintenance, Electronics, and Graphics Divisions, where students observed how law enforcement vehicles are equipped and maintained.
The program concluded with a tour of the local jail. Major Alvin Robinson noted that students’ expressions changed when they entered the cells, highlighting the seriousness of the environment. The visit was meant to show high school juniors and seniors the importance of making lawful decisions and the possible consequences of criminal behavior.
Students interested in further learning about criminal justice were encouraged to speak with their school counselors about the Introduction to Criminal Justice Course. This course provides students with firsthand exposure to law enforcement and corrections.
Parents and students seeking more information were advised to contact school counselors for details about the course and scheduling.
