Following a distressing discovery in St. Clair Township, two individuals have been taken into custody on charges of child endangerment, the Butler County Sheriff's Office reported. Deputies, responding to a welfare check on Tuesday, encountered a scene that Sheriff Richard K. Jones deemed "horrible" due to the unsafe living conditions for the involved children. According to the Butler County Sheriff's Office, the residence on the 1500 block of Biscayne Drive left much to be desired regarding the children’s safety and well-being.

The harrowing specifics of the environment included the finding of a white powdery substance accessible to the children, walls smeared with fecal matter, and a disturbing lack of food and hygienic facilities. In the Sheriff’s words, "It’s horrible the condition these children were living in." The children's mother, when found, admitted to the deplorable state of the home, where her brother and sister were expected to care for her children, but "they never do," according to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.

Subsequently, arrests ensued for Adamaris Llamile Gutierrez, 24, and Christopher Gutierrez Perez, 18, who now face charges of Endangering Children. Currently, Perez also faces an immigration-related hold as investigations revealed his undocumented presence in the United States from Guatemala. The involvement of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ensures Perez is now detained on an ICE detainer alongside the local charges.

Children Services stepped in swiftly, providing the children with a safer environment as they were placed with responsible adults. Commending the community's vigilance, Sheriff Jones appreciated, said in a statement obtained by the Butler County Sheriff's Office, "our citizens that see something and say something," in light of the events leading to the welfare check and the subsequent discovery of the conditions inside the home. This case underscores the gravity of community awareness and the roles individuals play in safeguarding the well-being of the vulnerable.
