Get ready to spin the yarns of the old as the Plymouth History Center preps to take locals on a journey through the Parker's Lake Cemetery this autumn. Ditching the spooky overtones usually associated with such locales, this series of guided tours is slated to offer a historical deep dive into the stories of Plymouth's settlers and pioneers. As the sun dips lower in the sky, participants will trace the steps of the past from 5 to 7 p.m. on select Thursdays: Oct. 2, Oct. 16, and Oct. 30.

"Parkers Lake Cemetery is the final resting place for nearly 900 Plymouth settlers and pioneers, all with unique stories," Historical Site Coordinator Ryan Barland told the Plymouth official website. The graveyard itself boasts a heritage dating back to 1871, christened on what once was the Parker family's land. Since 1973, the municipality of Plymouth has kept up the maintenance, ensuring the site's preservation.

Surprisingly, history buffs and the curious can partake in these evening tours free of charge. The city's goal is simple — share the tales woven into the cemetery’s history and elaborate on Plymouth’s heritage. Nonetheless, spaces may be limited; thus, the public is advised to secure their spots in advance. Interested parties are directed to haul their browsers over to the Plymouth city site to sign a slot.
