A suspect has been apprehended in Larimer County after a troubling series of events, which involved catfishing individuals through a dating app, leading to accusations of entrapment and threats within his vehicle. The Larimer County Sheriff's Office highlighted their alarm regarding the possibility of additional victims still not accounted for.
Responding to a 911 hangup call near the Douglas Reservoir in Fort Collins on the last day of August, deputies encountered Anthony Brown-Wright, born August 9, 1992, who was subsequently arrested after investigation. Upon their arrival, deputies witnessed a man and another adult exiting Brown-Wright's white GMC Yukon. The hangup call, as it turned out, was closely connected to the suspect's actions that day.
Details revealed that the victim had arranged a meetup, under the guise of connecting with a woman, only to discover upon entering the vehicle that Brown-Wright's persona was entirely fabricated. The situation escalated to the point where Brown-Wright prevented the victim from leaving and thwarted their attempt to call for help. This method of operation bore a striking resemblance to another recent incident on August 22 involving the same suspect and a similar deception at Simpson Ponds. In that earlier case, the victim escaped after a struggle, only to face a threat of being reported to authorities unless sexual favors were granted, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect now faces an array of charges ranging from criminal extortion, a class 4 felony, to theft of less than $300, a petty offense, as well as several misdemeanors, including third-degree assault and false imprisonment, two counts. Brown-Wright's bond was set at $25,000 by the Larimer County Court. Notably, both individuals targeted by Brown-Wright are transgender, raising concerns about potential targeted acts based on gender identity. Anyone with information about this suspect or related incidents is being asked to contact Deputy Megan Job at 970-577-2085 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868 or through their website.
