On the run for months after allegedly opening fire on a car containing children, 19-year-old Alejandro Pereza-Pasos has been apprehended in Mexico. As reported by FOX 10 Phoenix, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office confirmed the arrest of the suspect involved in a shooting that took place on May 29 at the intersection of Western Drive and Pleasant Valley in Cottonwood, Arizona.
Investigators believe the attack on the vehicle, housing an adult driver and two minors aged 13 and 15, stemmed from a previous altercation involving Pereza-Pasos and the adult driver. Following the May 29 incident, deputies and the SWAT team located Pereza-Pasos' vehicle at a residence on Messai Circle, though he had already fled the scene. According to information obtained by AZ Family, a warrant for Pereza-Pasos was issued, charging him with three counts of aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons.
With the combined efforts of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, and Mexican authorities, Pereza-Pasos, a U.S. citizen, was arrested in Mexico. He is currently waiting for extradition back to Yavapai County. Thankfully, despite the potential for tragedy, no injuries were reported during the shooting incident.
The suspect now awaits the legal process to unfold upon his return to the United States. His accusations, including three counts of aggravated assault and weapons misconduct, will soon see him before the court to face the consequences of that May day, where a potential family outing could have turned deadly in an intersection in Cottonwood.
