
A suspect has been arrested in the double homicide of a mother and her son in Hazel Park, with authorities discovering the victims with injuries indicating severe trauma. CBS News Detroit reported that Hazel Park police confirmed the arrest of a 43-year-old man following the execution of a search warrant at a Pontiac residence. The man is currently in custody at the Hazel Park Police Department.
The incident, which police are treating as a double homicide, occurred on Labor Day and involved 41-year-old Linda Hill and her 12-year-old son, Kardi Jackson. Neighbors expressed their shock at the event. One neighbor, Ofelia De La Rosa, told CBS News Detroit, "Very sad and a horrible situation, because we live in a good neighborhood, and they were very nice people." Police were called to the home on Berdeno Avenue near 9 Mile Road and I-75 after reports of an unresponsive woman.
Further details revealed by ClickOnDetroit indicated that the suspect, a Redford man, was arrested in Pontiac. Sources close to the investigation confirmed that Hill and Jackson suffered injuries to their necks. Additionally, evidence linked to the case was recovered at the Pontiac home where the arrest was made.
In response to the incident, Hazel Park Schools Superintendent, Amy Wilcox, issued a statement to parents emphasizing the availability of mental health professionals for students in need. "We can't put a time frame on trauma. And so we’ll make sure that all of those resources are in place," Wilcox said according to CBS News Detroit.
