Tampa’s Ballast Point Pier is undergoing a restoration project to revitalize the landmark rather than rebuild it entirely. The project aims to restore the pier while reducing the time and cost compared with a full reconstruction, according to the City of Tampa.
Mayor Jane Castor highlighted the pier’s use for fishing, strolling, air shows, and fireworks. City departments, including Parks and Recreation and Logistics and Asset Management, are working together on the project while prioritizing safety.
The restoration process will begin with a competitive bid for design and construction teams, though no completion date has been announced. The pier, which extends 970 feet into the water, has a long history of resilience, having been rebuilt after the 1921 hurricane and surviving until damage from hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. The project aims to restore its recreational and sightseeing functions for the community.
