Motorists planning to navigate Interstate 24 in Grundy County may need to prep for some delays due to scheduled maintenance by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). According to an update on the TDOT website, crews will be implementing rolling roadblocks and shoulder closures to carry out pipe repairs on the eastbound lanes.
The work is set to begin today, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. local time between mile markers 120 and 129. A subsequent session will follow on Tuesday, September 9, extending from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the same stretch. While these repairs are slated for the median of I-24 East, it's stated that I-24 Westbound traffic should remain unaffected.
Delays are anticipated, and drivers are encouraged to exercise caution when traversing the area. TDOT has stressed that the works are contingent on weather conditions and may shift if unexpected weather strikes or if other unforeseen circumstances arise, as detailed by TDOT.
Tennessee’s Move Over Law is also in play, necessitating motorists to create space for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Noncompliance could lead to a fine of up to $500 or up to 30 days of jail time. TDOT reminds drivers to stay updated via their SmartWay Map or by dialing 511 for travel information prior to departure.
